Good news for home buyers in Lee County. Prices are down. Property taxes are down (way!). Interest rates on mortgages are down. Choices of houses are UP. Sounds good does it not? As long as you don't mind Lee County, Florida scrambling to find about 160 million in shortfall on property tax revenue. Money earmarked for education, law enforcement, firefighting, infra-structure, parks, and on and on... Property values in Cape Coral and Lehigh Acres could plummet between 20-40 %. New construction is basically at a standstill, and commerical is looking bleak for next 18 months. Still, our area is a desired destination point. Great weather, clean water, recreation abounds, Boston Red Sox getting new stadium in 2012 to go with our Minnesota Twins and maybe soon the Baltimore Orioles with Tampa Bay Rays up the street in Port Charlotte. The widening or I-75, new hospital set to open soon on Daniels and Metro Parkway, and enough golf courses to keep most people on the links. Beaches and boating and Sanibel has J.N. Ding Darling nature perserve. No state income tax, Florida Gulf Coast University, the state's 10th major school of higher learning, and our award winning Southwest Regional Airport for easy access to all points just means smiles for the camera. Think SNOW, not slow, when it comes to Florida! |
