In todays local newspaper, www.news-press.com, there was a story from U.S. News & World Report magazine, www.usnews.com, about Fort Myers High School. It was recently selected as the soxth-best International Baccalaureate high school in the U.S. based on number of IB diplomas earned. At Fort Myers High, www.fmhleeschools.com, 29.6 percent of 12th graders earn an IB diploma. The magazine reviewed more than 21,000 high schools from across the United States. Fort Myers High is the only Lee County school (public, private, or charter)honored by U.S. News & World Report. My youngest daughter, Jordan is in her first year at Fort Myers High, and is attempting to take double the mathematic requirements most students pursue. Jordan is as tall or taller than many young adults (teenagers) at 15 years old, and also has enough strength to carry back and forth from school about twenty-five pounds of books and materials. Even though she does not have to walk 10 miles in the snow, with or without shoes, I marvel at her lassiez-faire approach to schedule. We should check back in with her at end of first year and determine if she has shrunk or has biceps.
