Everyone Likes Lee County, especially Moody's PDF Print E-mail

The international finance agency, Moody's, http://www.moodys.com, views our Lee County, including real estate ravaged Cape Coral, as excellent examples of strong fiscal management. The maintenance of this consistent credit profile is remarkable only in the fall of the local real estate market between 2007-2010, was only exceeded by Las Vegas and a few others. Our property tax revenues are less than half of what they were in 2007 (tied to property values). With the tax base down almost 60%, relying on these dollars to fund services is unrealistic. Cutting of services and low Lee County debt have helped carry us through these" worst of times". With only 5% of Lee County's budget paying off debt, the time to plan for the next 4-5 years is at hand.

We are poised for more growth, and despite continued unemployment and foreclosures comprimising our comeback, growth in tourism, helthcare, and new trade and buisness find our area friendly to their needs. Having a history of strong fiscal management, $120 million in county reserves, two professional baseball teams play spring baseball, gorgeous beaches, myriads of championship golf courses, and wonderful weather means "Lee is the place to be."
