The Lee County Commissioner voted the Waterman-Pinnacle site on Daniels Parkway for building a new spring training facility by 20012, www.news-press.com. Since I live with my lovely wife just down the road (also within a driver and a long iron to Hammond Stadium, spring home of the Minnesota Twins), www.miraclebaseball.com/stadium , makes our house a mecca to follow the boys of Spring. Was it the best choice of the four remaining finalists????? If we look at costs to the public (tourist dollars) and ease of permitting, along with possible less stress demand on local residents, proximity to our International Airport, www.flylcpa.com, and I-75 then this site was a wonderful choice. The longest shot was Edison Farms which was the favorite of Chairman Ray Judah and initally Frank Mann (later switched to the winning site). Although their focus was on getting some 2000 acres of environmentally sensitive land under county rule the local strident protests from neighbors and permitting delays would have not been in Lee County's best interests in thes economic times.
